Ctrl+; in Grid

I think that adding the following functionality to the grid tool would be very helpful. I'm fairly new so if I am way off base, please be gentle. :)

Could we bind the keyboard event Ctrl+; so that it behaves as in Excel to insert the current date into the active cell?

WHy would that be built in? Write the functionality.
